The town of **Vezelay itself is very pretty, on a hill with lovely stone buildings. It’s very touristy and small. We had a nice night, but I wouldn’t make a point of staying long here.

  • **Vezelay Abbey: The UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Basilique de Vézelay (Vézelay Basilica) sits atop a hill overlooking the town of Vézelay and is the keeper of Mary Magdalene’s relics (lending to its alternative title of Abbaye Sainte-Marie-Madeleine de Vézelay). The farce of this scenario is really quite interesting – unfortunately more interesting than the cathedral itself. It is impressive, rather austere, very recently stored. The basilica was considered an important place of Christianity during the Middle Ages and was a major stop for pilgrims en route to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle.

Our Hotel, ***SY LES GLYCINES, was very nice, in a beautifully restored historic building, right next to the cathedral. We had an average meal at their nearby property **Sy La Terrasse.
