***Sinaia is a very popular ski resort, and houses one of the architectural pearls of Romania, the Peleș Castle. We found the town charming, packed with people, lively restaurants, and generally fun (yet high end/adult) vibe. You could spend a full day in Sinaia.

Hotel:

  • ***Vila Economat (www.caferegalpeles.ro). This is literally on the grounds of Peles Castle (the old guard house) and is wonderful. Furniture is a bit spare in Romanian style, but the spaces are lovely and you couldn’t be in a more convenient location.

Food:

  • **Forest (www.ioana-hotels.ro): we had a very expensive, not particularly tasty, and thoroughly enjoyable meal at what I suspect is the most expensive restaurant in town. The wine list was awesome and the service was completely charming. I’d go back.

Sites:

  • ***Peles Castle: Sinaia houses one of the architectural pearls of Romania, the Peleș Castle. Erected by the former Romanian king Carol I as a summer residence, the palace is today a fascinating museum exhibiting a stunning Neo-Renaissance architecture and 160+ rooms in a range of decorative styles. We loved this – you can only visit by tour (take the longer one) and ARRIVE EARLY! The crowds by 11 am are pretty insane.
