Extremely cute old town. Colonized by Saxons in the 12th century, it is the home of Romania’s first museum, library, school, hospital, mountain resort, and beer garden. You could easily fill a day exploring and visiting museums. Low key.

Sibiu was named the “city of gastronomy” in the EU, 2019.

  • **Casa Luxemburg, Piata Mica, no. 16, Sibiu, $85. This was in a perfect location and is apparently a very history building. Kind of run down, but not in a dirty way.
  • Hotel Imparatur this was the fanciest hotel we saw in the area.

  • **Crama Sibiul Vechi: definitely for tourists, but it’s charming inside, food is what you’d expect, service is nice.

  • The old town is lovely to walk around. Don’t miss the Holy Trinity Cathedral, with its gorgeous and overdone Byzantine cathedral.
