**Schaffhausen is fine, but there’s nothing particularly exceptional. I wouldn’t make a huge effort to stay here. Older medieval city, well preserved.

A walk along the Rhein will take you Europe’s widest waterfall (249 metres), the Rheinfall, with great boat trips and castle to explore. It’s not exactly a “walk” – plan at least an hour each way (or drive). Most of the recommendations say to go to Schloss Laufen for the best view – but it doesn’t have a view. Go to the other side of the river (west side). The best view is from the dining room at Schlossli Worth: you have to have a meal to eat in the dining room (they don’t allow cocktails only).

We ate at **Restaurant Falken – a local brewery in the old town. We enjoyed our meal – a bit formal in setting, but the food was excellent. Our room at the **Best Western Plus Hotel Bahnhof was fine, centrally located, affordable, nothing exceptional.
