We were lucky to visit Mustair during a festival which involved a lot of cows dressed up. Awesome! The church (**Benedictine Convent of St John) is pretty great too, including a big mural of a beheading right behind the altar.

The Convent of Müstair, which stands in a valley in the Grisons, is a good example of Christian monastic renovation during the Carolingian period. It has Switzerland’s greatest series of figurative murals, painted c. A.D. 800, along with Romanesque frescoes and stuccoes. Unesco site. The museum is worth the time from an architectural perspective, showcasing the life of the nuns over several hundred years.

The ***Umbrail Pass is a spur from the Stelvio Pass that drops in near Mustair. I personally think it’s a better road, less trafficked, great turns.
