***Fontenay Abbey in Burgundy was founded in 1118 by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, a leading French saint, and built between 1139-1147. It’s the oldest preserved Cistercian abbey in the world. It’s a lovely and peaceful spot, well worth visiting. Also of note, the Abbey forge, one of Europe’s earliest industrial buildings, survives.
