Owing to its amazing scenery, Flåm has been a popular tourist destination since the 19th century. The village is busy travel junction, serving as one of the endpoints of the famous Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) and as a major highlight of the popular Norway in a Nutshell journey between Oslo and Bergen. I wouldn’t stay here (more of a stop for the ferry than a real place to stay).

Sites in Flam and Surrounds:

  • **Flåmsbana Museum next to the railway station is interesting and worth a quick tour. Good history of the region.

  • Just north of Otternes is the longest car tunnel in the world, ***Lærdalstunnelen. 24.5 km long! With lighting shows in the middle!
